BenchCanvas Capture Privacy Policy

What the Extension does

When you click the BenchCanvas icon you can:

• Start a URL capture from the current page or the root domain.
• Record the active tab as a short WebM video and import it as a flow (for private apps).

URL capture opens https://app.benchcanvas.app/app. Tab recordings can be downloaded locally or uploaded when you create a BenchCanvas project.

What data is read

The active tab URL when you use URL capture or start a tab recording. While recording, the Extension captures the visual content of that tab after you confirm the guide and countdown.

It does not:

• Track your browsing history across sites.
• Record without your explicit action.
• Read page content when you only use URL capture.
• Send analytics from the popup itself.

What data is sent and where

URL capture passes the URL to https://app.benchcanvas.app/app. Tab recordings upload only if you choose Create BenchCanvas project. Download saves the file on your device only.

The BenchCanvas web app’s own privacy policy applies after handoff.

Permissions

• tabs, activeTab: active tab URL and recording target.
• tabCapture: record the tab after you start a recording.
• offscreen, scripting, storage: recorder, guide overlay, session state.
• host_permissions on the BenchCanvas app origin: bridge for recording handoff.

Data retention

Session state (recording timer, pending import id) is kept while a recording session is active. WebM files are stored temporarily in IndexedDB until you discard, download only, or complete import to BenchCanvas.

Projects created on BenchCanvas are governed by the BenchCanvas web app privacy policy.

Children

BenchCanvas is intended for users 13 years of age or older.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the Extension handles data, we will update this page and bump the version number of the Extension. The current version is shown on the Chrome Web Store listing.
